* A California businessman was the winning bidder Sunday in an online auction for a one-day contract with the minor-league River City Rascals baseball team.
Mark Skorlich, 41, of Santa Monica, bid $9,050 for a half-inning in the outfield and a chance to bat during the Rascals' May 20 preseason game.
"I can't wait to start working out with the team," said Skorlich, a Web site owner, in a statement issued by Allen Gossett, assistant general manager of the Rascals of O'Fallon in suburban St. Louis.
Skorlich's winning bid also gets him 20 tickets to the game and a uniform, with a jersey -- No. 00.
