* A Wednesday federal court hearing in which Barry Bonds' trainer would seek to dismiss the steroid distribution charges against him has been postponed for weeks, a delay Greg Anderson's lawyer said was an effort to try to work out a plea deal.
"We're trying to resolve the case," Anderson's attorney, Anna Ling, said Tuesday. "We do not want to take this to trial. And we don't want to bring in baseball players to testify."
Federal prosecutors declined public comment about delaying until approximately June 26 a hearing in which Anderson was trying to suppress a warrant that authorized the search of his house in Burlingame, Calif., and his car.
* Texas Tech coach Bob Knight recently donated $40,000 to the school's libraries, continuing his support of a cause dear to him. Knight said Tuesday that athletic director Gerald Myers had announced efforts to raise $1 million for the Texas Tech Library at the last home game of the season in early March. When Knight first came to Tech in March 2001, he and his wife, Karen, gave $25,000 to the Texas Tech Libraries to start the Coach Bob Knight Library Fund, according to a news release. About $200,000 has been raised for the fund. Knight was credited with helping raise as much as $5 million over 10 years for the school library at Indiana University, where he coached for 29 years.
* Christie Welsh scored the game's only goal and the United States women's team won its third straight Algarve Cup title Tuesday, edging Germany 1-0.
