Third among rookies in scoring behind highly touted LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, Wade was placed on the injured list after undergoing an MRI. He is expected to wear a cast for at least two weeks.

The Raptors traded center Mengke Bateer to the Magic for forward Robert Archibald on Friday. The Raptors also sent Orlando the rights to 2003 second-round draft choice Remon Van de Hare and the option to swap second-round draft positions at the 2005 draft. Bateer averaged 1.1 points and 1.1 rebounds in seven games with Toronto.

Colleges

Miami will be joining the Atlantic Coast Conference, but three of their top players will not be tagging along. Tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., safety Sean Taylor and defensive tackle Vince Wilfork will pass up their final year of college eligibility to enter the NFL draft. Winslow confirmed his plans on Friday after coach Larry Coker addressed the media. Taylor and Wilfork revealed their intentions after Miami's 16-14 win over Florida State Thursday night at the Orange Bowl.

Central Florida football coach George O'Leary was released from a Minnesota hospital, two days after having a mild heart attack. The heart attack came three days after the Vikings' season ended with a last-play loss at Arizona. O'Leary was the Vikings' defensive coordinator. Since he was hired by Central Florida on Dec. 8, he was splitting time between the NFL team and the Golden Knights.

UCLA coach Karl Dorrell fired two assistants after the punchless Bruins dropped their last five games of the season, including a 17-9 loss to Fresno State in the Silicon Valley Bowl on Tuesday. Offensive line coach Mark Weber and tight ends-offensive line coach Gary Bernardi were dismissed. The Bruins went 6-7 overall and lost their last four Pac-10 games to finish 4-4 in the conference in their first season under Dorrell.

Football

Buccaneers director of player personnel Tim Ruskell interviewed for the team's vacant general manager position. Ruskell, who also met with the Dolphins about their GM post, met with the sons of Bucs owner Malcolm Glazer in Palm Beach. Raiders executive Bruce Allen interviewed for the job Tuesday. Tampa Bay has been without a GM since Dec. 15 when Rich McKay left for the same position with the Atlanta Falcons. Bryan and Joel Glazer also plan to interview Jets assistant general manager/director of player personnel Mike Tannenbaum and Giants director of player personnel Jerry Reese.

Hockey

Senators left wing Martin Havlat was suspended two games without pay by the National Hockey League for a kicking incident in a game against the Islanders on Thursday. Havlat kicked Islanders defenseman Eric Cairns in front of the New York goal at 9:56 of the third period, but a penalty was not given on the play.

Philadelphia captain Keith Primeau broke his right thumb when he was struck by a slap shot in the Flyers' 2-1 victory over the Panthers. Primeau said he will visit a hand specialist once the Flyers return to Philadelphia after the team plays at Tampa Bay today. It was not yet determined how long the center will be out.

Donald Audette became an unrestricted free agent when the Canadiens bought out the remainder of the forward's contract. Audette, 34, was signed through next season and was slated to earn $3 million in the 2004-05 campaign. The Quebec native had three goals and five assists in 23 games and was often a healthy scratch from the Montreal lineup this season. In 90 regular-season games with the Canadiens, Audette had 15 goals and 22 assists. He was placed on waivers Monday but no NHL team put in a claim for him.
