~ Texas State defeated the Redhawks in the New Mexico Sttate Thanksgiving Classic.
The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season in lopsided fashion Friday in the New Mexico State Thanksgiving Classic.
The Redhawks (4-1) never led in their game against Texas State and suffered an 80-47 loss.
Marie Moser scored on a layup for a 4-2 lead at the 17:11 mark to start a 7-0 run and Texas State (3-1) never looked back.
The Redhawks trailed 25-20 with just under four-minutes left in the first half, but Texas State used another 7-0 spurt to open a 32-20 lead with 2:07 left. Texas State took a 34-24 lead into halftime.
Southeast hit on 1-of-6 3-pointers in the first half, and would go 0-of-8 in the second half when Texas State put the game away.
Southeast pulled within seven points, 34-27, on a basket by Missy Whitney in the opening minute of the second half, but that was as close as the Redhawks would get.
Texas State responded with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes for a 46-27 lead.
Southeast, which shot 25 percent from 2-point range for the game, never got closer than 14 points.
Sonya Daugherty finished with 19 points and was the lone Southeast player to finish in double figures. Whitney, Rachel Blunt and Tierra Johnson each finished with six points.
Joyce Ekworomadu paced Texas State, which shot 44 percent from 2-point range, with 14 points. Ashley Cole added 12 points.
Southeast returns to action today at 5 p.m. against Northern Colorado.
