The Southeast Missouri State volleyball team remained undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play with a victory Saturday at Murray State.
Southeast improved to 2-0 in conference play and 5-8 overall with a 28-30, 30-26, 30-27, 30-24 win over the Racers. Murray State fell to 0-2 in the OVC.
Brenna Schlader led the Redhawks with 20 kills. Southeast finished with 25 more kills than Murray State. Brittany Hastings added 17 kills, Katrina Niemeyer and Jill Miller had 15 apiece, Jackson graduate Jessica Koeper had nine and setter Jamie Baumstark had eight.
Baumstark finished with 62 assists and added 22 digs. Lauren Scannell led Southeast with 27 digs. Miller added 14 digs, and Koeper had 11 digs.
Alison Mugler led the Racers with 22 kills and 30 digs. Katie Kemezys had 17 kills for Murray State, and Leopold graduate Holly Jansen had 13 kills.
The Redhawks will play Eastern Kentucky on Friday in their first home match.
Miranda Petrea survived three super tie-breakers to win the C flight for the Southeast Missouri State tennis team at the Evansville Classic, which wrapped up on Saturday.
The five-team tournament included Ohio Valley Conference schools Austin Peay and Eastern Illinois.
Petrea defeated Stephanie Harmazy of Eastern Illinois in the finals 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. Petrea won tie-breakers of 10-5 and 10-7 in the first two rounds.
Bryce Kristal and Drew Kristal finished second in the A flight doubles competition. Kristal-Kristal breezed through the first two rounds 8-2 and 8-2 before losing to a team from Eastern Illinois 8-6.
Bryce Kristal won the consolation bracket of the A flight singles. Kristal lost her first match but won two straight in the back draw.
Luz Garcia lost her first match in B flight singles, but came back with two straight wins to win the consoalation bracket. Drew Kristal lost twice in B flight play.
Juliana Negosek reached the semifinals of the C flight but was forced to retire due to injury. Morgan Kemp won one and lost two in C flight play.
In B flight doubles, the team of Petrea and Kemp won the consolation bracket.
The Southeast Missouri State women's cross country team tied for sixth among 32 teams in the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday.
The Redhawks scored 261 points to tie Georgia State. Ohio State University was first with 69 points.
Jen Caywood was 13th in 18 minutes, 37.93 seconds to lead the Redhawks, while Lindsay Zeiler was 14th in 18:38.33. Also for Southeast, Amy Warren was 55th in 19:31.07; Juli Koenigstein was 72nd in 19:48.43; Hannah Korte was 112th in 20:11.03; Brittni Peck was 125th in 20:18.76; and Sarah Verelst was 172nd in 21:20.33.
The Southeast men finished 22nd among 35 teams with 596 points.
The University of Tennessee won with 52 points, while Louisville's Wesley Korir set a course record of 23 minutes, 46.65 seconds.
Senior Gabe Lutes led the Redhawks by finishing 94th in 26:31.30. Danny Stults was 116th in 26:45.91; Kirk Nesbit was 128th in 26:55.86; Brad DeMattei was 138th in 27:03.92; Chris Herren was 173rd in 27:27.97; Kirk McNamara was 185th in 27:35.74; and Cory Huskey was 213th in 28:06.60.
