The Southeast Missouri State track and field team rewrote the record book in just its first indoor meet of the season.

Seniors Kevin Farley and Blake Smith, a Jackson native, each broke a school record in the Redhawks first indoor meet of the season at Eastern Illinois' EIU Early Bird meet on Friday.

Farley broke the school's weight throw record by nearly two feet with a throw of 68 feet, 5 inches.

That toss was good for first place and broke the previous record of 66-7 1/4.

Smith, who won the 60-meter dash in 6.72 seconds, broke his record of 6.72 from last season with a 6.67 run in a preliminary race.

Smith also won the long jump with a distance of 23-11 1/2. Central graduate Chris Martin was third in the event with a jump of 21-2 and won the triple jump with a leap of 50-9 1/2.

Farley also won the shot put with a throw of 57-11. Shon Kyle was second in the weight throw and shot put with throws of 57-5 and 54-3 1/4, respectively.

Christian Locke and Tyler Jourdan were second and third in the pole vault with heights of 16-6 3/4 and 15-7, respectively.

Marc Maton's time of 4:18 in the mile run was good for first place while Craig Munie finished fourth (4:27).

Chris Navarro and Mike Peters finished first and second in the 60-meter hurdles.

Aaron Bell was second in the 600 (1:22) and Kameron Long was second in the 800 in 1:57.

Notre Dame graduate and freshman Jordan Barber finished fourth in the 400-meter run (50.46) in his debut.

Southeast's 1600-meter relay team of Bell, Barber, Peters and Jarred Pasley won the event in 3:22.

The Redhawks' team of Maton, Long, Munie and Adam Shivers finished second in the distance medley relay.

Kayla Heidelberg, Cheyenne Tunti, Chelsea Miller and Jovannie Spears were third in the 1600 relay on the women's side.

Spears was fourth in the 600 (1:38.28).

Ayonna Cartwright was fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.67.

Taylor Coffelt ran the 60-meter hurdles in 9.00 for fourth place.

Abi Sowash took second in high jump with a distance of 5-3 1/4.

Jessica Brown third in triple jump (38-8 1/4) and Ahshane Johnson was fourth (37-10). Johnson also took fourth in the long jump (17-8).

Macy Ritter was fourth in the high jump (5-3 1/4).

Sarah Hall was second in shot put 45-10 while Kayla Gutierrez finished second in weight throw with a toss of 64-3 1/4. Hall was third in the weight throw (57-9).

Southeast's next meet is the Illini Classic on Jan. 17 in Champaign, Illinois.
