NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Eastern Kentucky's Mike Whitson shot an 8-under-par 64 Tuesday to claim a 1-stroke lead after the second round of the Ohio Valley Conference golf championships.
Whitson's round came over the par-72, Springhouse Golf Course and gives him a 1-stroke lead over first-round leader Brett Alexander of Middle Tennessee State.
Alexander shot a 72 Tuesday to go with an opening round 68.
Middle Tennessee's Dane Randle and Austin Peay's Boyd Nickle are tied for third with two-day totals of 3-under 141.
Randle had a round of 68 Tuesday as the Blue Raiders took a 4-stroke lead in the team portion of the tournament.
Middle Tennessee's team score of 570 is 6-under-par. Blue Raiders Brett Alexander and Steve Ressler both shot 72 in the second round.
Defending champion Eastern Kentucky is second in the team competition with a 574 total.
Austin Peay is third at 2-over-par 578, followed by Murray State, Morehead State, Southeast Missouri, Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois.
The tournament concludes Wednesday.
