CHARLESTON, Ill. -- The Southeast Missouri State University baseball team was unable to gain any ground in the Ohio Valley Conference standings Sunday, splitting a doubleheader with Eastern Illinois.

After dropping the opening game of the weekend series Saturday, Southeast took advantage of five EIU errors to win the first game of Sunday's twinbill 5-4. The Panthers' defense tightened in the nightcap, committing only two errors in a 4-3 win.

Southeast is now 15-12 overall and 6-6 in the OVC. EIU's record stands at 15-7 and 6-2.

The Indians scored two runs in the final three innings of the opening game to rally from a 4-3 deficit. Dan Huesgen picked up the win in relief of starter Ryan Spille. Huesgen pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only two hits.

Center fielder Jeremy Johnson had two of Southeast's four hits. The Panthers pounded 11 hits.

Southeast pitcher Daniel Rodriguez went the distance in the second game, allowing two unearned runs on seven hits, but was unable to get the win.

EIU scored in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie, then held the Indians scoreless in the seventh inning for the win.

Phil Warren and Brad Hoehner each had two of Southeast's eight hits.

Southeast returns to action Saturday with a doubleheader at Austin Peay.
