A look at all the Redhawks action from the weekend.

The Southeast Missouri State tennis team notched its first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season Friday, rolling past host Tennessee State 7-0.

Southeast (2-7, 1-1 OVC) swept the six singles matches, two by default, while losing only six games. Southeast swept the three doubles matches, dropping just four games.

Recording shutout wins were Nikole Novikova at No. 1 singles, along with the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams of Alyce Kelly-Elise Nattier and Ashton Hartley-Diana Donoslovic.

Southeast is back in action today at Missouri-Kansas City.

Softball goes 1-3

The Southeast softball team finished play Sunday in the Arkansas Invitational with two losses as the Redhawks went 1-3 in the tournament.

Southeast (6-11) outhit both opponents Sunday but fell to Louisiana Tech 5-3 and SIU-Edwardsville 6-5.

Alex Ramirez and Elise Sperakos both had two of Southeast's 10 hits against Louisiana Tech. Shelby Stein drove in two runs. Stefanie Barnes was the losing pitcher.

Jennifer Vasquez had three of the Redhawks' 13 hits against SIUE. Nicole Troncoso, Carmen Fowler and Renee Kertz all added two hits. Whitney Dupuis took the loss.

In action Saturday, Southeast rallied past SIUE 7-6 and lost to host Arkansas 4-2.

Southeast trailed SIUE 6-4 before scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Freshman HaLeigh Willis delivered a walk-off RBI single to score Vasquez.

Troncoso and Melissa Walker both had two of Southeast's 10 hits. Kertz added three RBIs. Barnes got the win.

Against Arkansas, Sperakos had two of Southeast's five hits. Whitney Dupuis took the loss.

Southeast returns to action Tuesday with a 4 p.m. home doubleheader against IUPUI.

Ex-player, coach dies

Marvin Walker, a former Southeast basketball player and assistant coach, died last week in Pittsburgh at the age of 70.

Walker played at Southeast in 1958-59 and was an assistant under Carroll Williams from 1977 to 1979.

During an extensive coaching career that spanned the high school and college ranks, Walker made his biggest mark at Drury University in Springfield, Mo., where he went 249-110 from 1980 to 1991.
