More than $50,000 was raised during Southeast Missouri State's 9th annual Walk for Women on Saturday.
The event, which helps fund scholarships for Southeast student-athletes, drew a crowd of about 600 for he 1.6-mile walk around the Cape Girardeau campus.
"You couldn't have asked for a better day," Southeast Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Cindy Gannon said in a press release. "The crowd was awesome and the weather was great. This event is important for all of our athletic programs and serves as a great opportunity to bring extra recognition to our women's teams. I want to thank our sponsors and everyone else who helped make today's walk a huge success."
The event has raised more than $475,000 since it began in 2008.
The Southeast track and field teams topped SIU Edwardsville at the Cougars' Gateway Classic on Saturday.
The men's team finished with 87 points to claim the title over SIUE (70) and the women's team edged out the Cougars 82-80.
The Redhawk women won seven individual titles and a relay while the men's team posted 10 individual first-place finishes along with a relay.
Mariam Ajiroba won the women's 100-meter dash in 11.83 seconds with Cheyenne Tunti coming in third (12.20).
Tunti won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.76 followed by Ajiroba and Sidne' Willamson in second (25.07) and third (26.29), respectively.
Kayla Heidelberg, Tunti, Willamson and Ajiroba teamed up to win the 4x100-meter relay in 47.74.
Megan Parks won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 15.12 seconds and Kaitlyn Shea came in third in 2:23.00.
Angela Sumner took first in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:42.50 and Anna Thomas won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:45.91.
Shea, Parks, Thomas and Natalie Kopplin took second in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:16.45.
Chante Mosby's height of 1.65 meters was good for first in the high jump while Willamson won the long jump with a height of 5.55m. N'Kia Jones was third in the triple jump (11.60m).
Taylor Coffelt and Catherine Hopkins went 1-2 in the javelin with throws of 41.28m and 32.95m, respectively.
Aaliah Herron finished second in the shot put (14.03m) and Wachter was third in the discus (41.19m) and hammer throw (48.22m).
Haile Wilson won the men's 100-meter dash in 10.74.
Brandon Chunn won the 400-meter run with a time of 49.12. Jordan Brown and Kameron Long were second and third in the 800-meter run with times of 1:54.92 and 1:55.34, respectively.
Southeast had the top 6 finishes in the 1500-meter run with Nathan Cook winning the race with a time of 3:59.73. Craig Munie was second (4:02.93) and Daniel Plunkett took third (4.03.35).
Marc Maton won the 3,000-meter run (8:26.04) while Jace Mortimer won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:49.97) and Tyler Beaman finished second (9:51.25).
Ty Crowden's time of 58.05 was good for first in the 400-meter hurdles.
Dalton Huffman won the high jump (1.85m) and Dylan Rush won the pole vault (5.02m).
Kevin Farley posted first-place finishes in the shot put (18.69m), discus (54.91m) and hammer throw (61.32m). Stephen Zagurski was third (14.47m) in the shot put and Jason Walker was second in the discus (50.29m).
Zach Gordon, Tre Curry and Christopher Davis took second (7.23m), third (6.81m) and fourth (5.89m) in the long jump, respectively.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Chunn, Jordan Barber, Jarred Pasely and Brannon Wright won the race in 3:12.52.
Southeast travels to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational next weekend.
The Southeast softball team was dealt a walk-off loss and a two-run come-from-behind loss by UT Martin in its Saturday doubleheader.
The Skyhawks defeated Southeast 1-0 in nine innings in Game 1 and posted a 3-1 comeback win in Game 2 in Martin, Tennessee.
The Redhawks have now lost 12 of their last 13 games.
UTM had just three baserunners over the first eight scoreless innings of the series opener as starting pitcher Maddie Krumrey gave up just one hit and one walk and the Redhawks committed an error. Southeast stranded six during that span.
The Skyhawks' second hit of the game was a leadoff double by Alicia Hansen in the bottom of the ninth.
She advanced to third on a bunt single by Savannah Dodson, who stole second.
Carly Gonzales singled up the middle to plate the winning run. Krumrey dropped to 5-10 with the loss.
Claire Wernig went 2 for 4 at the plate. Danielle Turner was the only other Redhawk to record a hit off pitcher Brooke Kennedy, who improved to 13-8 with the shutout. She walked two and struck out 11.
Southeast took its only lead of the day with a solo home run by Riley Hayes in the top of the fourth of Game 2.
Gracyn McBride tied it with a leadoff home run in the fifth and a two-run shot by Gonzalez in the sixth gave UTM the lead for good.
Hayes and Mackenzie Hoelting each went 2 for 3 while Messex and Abby Tillotson recorded the Redhawks' other two hits.
Hoelting took the loss in the circle to drop to 0-6. She allowed two runs (one earned) in two innings of relief. She struck out one.
Starter Haley Thogmartin allowed one earned run on three hits with a walk in four innings.
Katie Warrick improved to 2-1 for UTM, allowing one earned run on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
The Skyhawks (25-18, 9-7 OVC) and Redhawks (12-26, 6-10 OVC) conclude their series at 1 p.m. today.
The Southeast tennis team lost its 16th straight match on Saturday.
Belmont (3-15, 1-9 OVC) defeated the Redhawks 6-1 in Nashville.
The No. 1 doubles team of Isabella Krupa and Annisa Warasanti did not finish their match and Ana Canahuate-Torres and Mila Majtan lost 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. The Redhawks forfeited the No. 3 doubles as well as the No. 6 singles due to Anais Emelie being sidelined with an injury.
Emilia Montenegro's 4-6, 7-6, 10-4 win in No. 4 singles was Southeast's only win.
Krupa, Majan and Torres, at the No. 1, 2 and 3 singles spots, respectively, lost in straight sets while Warasanti was defeated 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 at No. 3.
The Redhawks (1-18, 0-9 OVC) wrap up their season at Tennessee State at 10 a.m. today.
