The Southeast Missouri State softball team was handed a pair of walk-off losses on Saturday.

Murray State (24-14, 11-5 OVC) scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in both games of an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader in Murray, Kentucky.

The Redhawks lost the series opener 4-3 and Game 2 6-5 to drop to 10-20 and 5-9 in conference. It also snapped a four-game winning streak for Southeast.

Racers left fielder Cayla Levins drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to plate the winning run in the first game.

MSU held a 3-1 lead after six innings. With one out in the top of the seventh, third baseman Savannah Carpenter doubled to left, center fielder Kayla Fortner drew a walk and first baseman Lindsey Patterson singled to load the bases.

Left fielder Taylor McDannold, who went 3 for 4 in the game, then hit a two-run single up the middle to even the game at 3-3.

Southeast stranded a couple of runners before the Racers responded in the bottom of the inning to win.

Freshman pitcher Madeline Krumrey (7-7) took the loss in the circle. She allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits and walked four batters.

The Racers held a 3-0 lead for the first four innings of Game 2 before Patterson hit a three-run home run to left in the top of the fifth to tie it.

MSU regained a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the inning that held until the seventh.

The Redhawks drew a couple of walks to start the inning and second baseman Meaghan Touchette hit a two-out double to tie it at 5 apiece. Touchette advanced to third on a wild pitch but was stranded.

After a single and a hit batter put runners on, MSU shortstop Alexa Becker sent a two-out RBI base hit up the middle for the victory.

Sophomore Keaira Schilling (3-8) went the distance and was credited with the loss. She allowed six earned runs on 14 hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout.

The Redhawks and Racers will play the series finale at 1 p.m. today at Racer Field.

Track and field

The Southeast track and field team competed in the three-day Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Redhawks' top finisher was junior Jason Walker, whose throw of 168 feet, 3 inches was good for second place in the discus.

Jackson graduate and Redhawks senior Blake Smith was third in the 100-meter dash in 10.31 seconds and the long jump with a distance of 24-9 1/4.

Central graduates Chris Martin, a sophomore, and Mary Dohogne, a senior were fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 48-8 1/2 and eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:56.38, respectively. Dohogne's time was the second-fastest steeplechase time in the history of Southeast's program and is top in the Ohio Valley Conference this season currently.

Junior Kayla Gutierrez was fourth in the discus (166-9) and fifth in the hammer throw (184).

Junior Cheyenne Tunti was fifth in the 400 in 55.29.

Junior Macy Ritter's jump of 5-3 1/4 was good for fourth in the high jump.

The Redhawks are scheduled to compete at the Indiana State Gibson Invite in Terre Haute, Indiana, next Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Tennis

The Southeast tennis team concluded its season with a shutout of Tennessee State on Saturday at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.

The Redhawks snapped a losing streak of 11 matches and finished the season 2-20 and 2-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 7-0 win over the Tigers.

Mariya Kostyuk and Katy Brady won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 and 5 singles matches, respectively. Viviana Ortiz took the No. 2 match 6-1,6-2 while Maria Montenegro won at No. 3 6-1, 6-0 and Annisa Warasanti won at No. 4 6-0, 6-1. Melissa Martin claimed the No. 6 match by default.

Kostyuk and Ortiz won the No. 1 doubles match 8-0, Montenegro and Warasanti won 8-1 at No. 2 and Martin and Anna Makhneva won the No. 3 doubles match by default.

The Redhawks were shutout 6-0 by Belmont on Friday.

Warasanti was the only Southeast player that was not defeated in straight sets. She lost at the No. 4 spot 3-6, 6-3, 4-6.

The two teams did not play any doubles matches.
