The Southeast Missouri State softball team pushed its winning streak to four games with a 4-3 extra innings walk-off victory over Southern Illinois on Wednesday.
The Redhawks and Salukis were tied through nine innings before Savannah Carpenter scored on an error in the 10th to help Southeast secure a victory at the Southeast Softball Complex.
With the win, Southeast coach Mark Redburn picked up his 100th career win as a Division I coach. The Redhawks also improved to 10-18 overall and are just a win shy of matching their win total from last season.
Southeast took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Shelby Eccles drove in pinch runner Nicole Deering and scored later in the inning on a fielder's choice.
SIU answered with two runs on three Southeast errors to tie the game in the sixth.
In the eighth, SIU took its first lead of the game on a one-out solo home run from Sydney Jones.
Southeast answered when Taylor McDannold scored on Riley Hayes' one-out double to right field.
Madeline Krumrey picked up her fourth-straight complete game victory and improved to 7-6 on the season. The freshman allowed one earned run on eight hits and had a season-high nine strikeouts in the win.
The Redhawks had seven hits and were led by Kayla Fortner, who went 2 for 2 with three walks, and Eccles, who finished 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Southeast returns to Ohio Valley Conference action with a three-game series at Murray State, beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Friday.
The Southeast tennis team's losing streak moved to 10 after a home loss to UT Martin.
The Skyhawks defeated the Redhawks 4-1 on Wednesday and won all but one singles match in straight sets.
Melissa Martin was the lone bright spot for the Redhawks, who had not won a set in four consecutive matches. The senior snapped that skid with a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win in No. 6 singles. Martin has a team-high five singles wins this season.
Southeast fell to 1-19 overall and 1-7 in the OVC. The Redhawks will host Belmont (4-14, 2-7 OVC) at 3 p.m. Friday.
Southeast Missouri State senior Blake Smith was named the Ohio Valley Conference field athlete of the week on Wednesday.
Smith defended his long jump and 100-meter dash titles on Saturday during the Joey Haines Invitational at the Abe Stuber Track and Field Complex.
His winning jump of 7.35 meters ranks as longest in the OVC so far this season while his 100-meter first-place finish in 10.58 seconds is the third fastest outdoor time on the conference just three meets into the season.
