The Southeast Missouri State soccer team remains undefeated against Arkansas State after the ninth meeting between the two teams on Friday night at Houck Stadium.

The Redhawks defeated the Red Wolves 1-0 shutout and have yet to allow ASU to score against them in nine matches.

"I complimented our program for how our defensive unit worked together tonight; I feel that was a big improvement in our game," coach Heather Nelson said. "I thought Paige Blankenheim had the game of her career tonight so I hope she keeps going up from here."

Junior midfielder Jennifer Antonacci scored in the 51st minute of the game off a pass from sophomore Paige Blankenheim.

The Redhawks had 14 shots, five on goal, while the Red Wolves had nine shots and one on goal.

Junior forward Natasha Minor had four shots while Abby Klintworth, Jenna Collingridge and Antonacci had two apiece.

Sophomore Alyssa Sickler started in goal and was replaced in the second half by defending Ohio Valley Conference defender of the year and freshman of the year Kindra Lierz.

Lierz made one save and recorded the win to improve to 3-3-1.

Southeast improved to 4-3-1 with its second consecutive win.

The Redhawks face Union University at 4 p.m. Sunday in Jackson, Tennessee.

Volleyball

The Southeast volleyball team picked up one win in the Bradley Invitational.

The Redhawks defeated the host Braves on Friday night but lost to Texas-El Paso and DePaul.

"We tried some new things this weekend by trying to create more offensive options for ourselves," Southeast coach Julie Yankus said in a press release. "We have a very young team and it's been great to see how they have developed over the last couple of weeks. I have seen moments of greatness over the past few weeks and I'm excited to see that on a more consistent basis as we gain experience and confidence."

The Redhawks won the first set against Bradley 25-19 before losing the next two 25-21, 25-18.

They edged out a 29-27 victory in the fourth set and claimed the match with a 15-12 win in the fifth set.

Marie Less had 14 kills, Nzingha Clarke had 13, Madalyn Werths had 12 and Krissa Gearring had 11 while setter Keegan Fornoff dished out 36 assists.

UTEP defeated Southeast in five sets to open the tournament.

The Redhawks won the first set in commanding fashion with a 25-13 margin before losing the second set 25-20.

Southeast won the third set 25-20 before losing the final two and the match 25-21, 15-9.

Clarke finished with 14 kills, Korrine Croft had 13 and Less had 12. Katrina Rotta had 51 assists.

DePaul improved to 10-1 with its defeat of the Redhawks to finish the tournament on Saturday. Southeast lost 18-25, 25-18, 28-26, 17-25, 10-15.

Werths had 15 kills and Clarke had 10. Rotta had 21 assists, and Fornoff added 20.

The Redhawks are now 4-9 on the season. They begin Ohio Valley Conference action against defending OVC champion Murray State on Friday.
