A look at what's happening in the world of Southeast athletics.

Ryan Lane recently was added to the Southeast Missouri State track and field coaching staff.

In addition to his duties as primary coach for all distance events, he will serve as the cross country coach in the fall. Lane replaces Miles Krieger, who left the program after four seasons.

Lane, who ran for Southeast in 2002 and 2003 before an injury cut short his career, interned as a Southeast coach in 2008 and 2009.

He also has been an assistant for the Central High School cross country and track programs.

Lane, a graduate of Francis Howell North High School, earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Southeast. He is an accomplished marathon runner who was ninth in the 2008 St. Louis Marathon and 147th in the 2009 Boston Marathon.

"I'm extremely thrilled to add Ryan to our coaching staff," Southeast track and field coach Eric Crumpecker said in a release. "We are extremely fortunate to get someone of his caliber and character in our program. Having someone that is familiar with our program and my coaching philosophy will make the transition smooth."

The Southeast women's track and field team has been recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as an All-Academic Team for the third straight year.

The Redhawks were among 151 institutions to receive the academic honor after compiling a 3.30 grade-point average during the 2009-2010 school year.

Southeast was one of seven Ohio Valley Conference squads named an All-Academic Team.

Soccer set for exhibition

The Southeast soccer team will play the first of two home exhibition games at 7 p.m. Saturday against Evansville.

Game time originally was scheduled for 2 p.m. but was changed due to the extreme heat and humidity.

Southeast will conclude its exhibition schedule against McKendree on Aug. 19 before opening the season Aug. 22 at home against Belmont.
