Southeast Missouri State women's basketball coach John Ishee has completed his staff with Wednesday's hiring of assistant La Kea Jones.
Jones joins second-year assistants Jayme Callahan and Elizabeth Cansdale on the Redhawks' coaching staff.
Jones comes to Cape Girardeau from Division III Norwich University after spending the 2008-2009 season at Division I Mount St. Mary's.
Jones was a four-year starting point guard at Division I Virginia Commonwealth University from 2004 through 2008, where she ranks in the program's top 10 in five career categories.
Jones finished her career at VCU first in games played and minutes played, third in assists, eighth in steals and 10th in 3-pointers made. Her 159 assists as a senior led the Colonial Athletic Association. She graduated from VCU in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
"We are very fortunate to get a person of high professional and personal character of La Kea," Ishee said in a release. "She played collegiately at a high level as a point guard and our young players will learn a lot from her. We as a program are excited to add her to our staff."
DeLong earns honor
Karleigh DeLong is Southeast's lone representative on the all-Ohio Valley Conference volleyball team as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors.
DeLong, a senior outside hitter, earned her second first-team all-OVC honor, after also making the squad in 2007.
DeLong ranks third in the league with 3.43 kills and 3.93 points per set. She produced 10 double-doubles this year, including a 20-20 effort with 25 kills and 22 digs against Tennessee State.
Southeast finished seventh in the 10-team OVC and failed to qualify for the six-team conference tournament that begins today in Jacksonville, Ala.
