STILLWATER, Okla. -- Southeast Missouri State University's baseball team very nearly played giant-killer once again here Tuesday night.
The Indians, who earlier this season stunned nationally-ranked Wichita State, almost pulled off another shocking upset Tuesday.
But Oklahoma State -- the nation's 10th-ranked team -- rallied for a 9-7 victory.
OSU improved to 23-7 while Southeast fell to 8-17.
The squads are scheduled to conclude the two-game series at 2 p.m. today.
Southeast led 5-2 after a LaMonte Collier two-run homer in the fifth inning. After OSU went ahead 7-5, the Indians tied it 7-7 in the seventh. But the Cowboys scored single runs in the seventh and eighth.
Collier had three of Southeast's nine hits. Mike Miller added two.
Troy Pehle, Southeast's third pitcher, suffered the loss. He allowed two runs in two innings. Starter Dave Siboda allowed five runs (two earned) in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out eight. Jason Swearingen gave up two runs in 1 2/3 innings.
OSU had 13 hits, including three home runs. The Cowboys used four hurlers.
