Kelly senior Kristen Vetter is the Southeast Missourian Player of the Week.

Vetter, the catcher for the Hawks' softball team, played a big role in her team's 13-2 victory over Hartville in the Class 2 quarterfinals.

The win means Vetter will get to make another trip to the state final four.

"It feels amazing," Vetter told the Missourian. "We went my sophomore year and last year we lost by one. That was a hard loss. It feels amazing to be going senior year just as a last thing."

Vetter was 2 for 3 at the plate against Hartville with two extra-base hits -- a double and an RBI triple.

The triple was part of a decisive seven-run second inning for the Hawks.

"It felt great because usually we are behind most of the game and this time we came out right on top," Vetter said.

The big hit and big inning put the Hawks at ease.

"I felt like we could do it," Vetter said. "I was just nervous on how we were going to perform at first and then once we started getting runs I felt so much better."
