Southeast Missourian Player of the Week: Jon Morrow

Senior Jon Morrow provided an inside presence at the most crucial times during Oran's run to the Class 2 District 3 boys basketball tournament.

Morrow scored 24 points in the semifinals and 17 points in the title game to help the Eagles capture their first district crown since 1999.

"It feels amazing," Morrow said after Oran's victory in Friday's district title game. "These guys, they worked so hard. We work hard in practice. Our coach is great. Our assistant coach is great. We deserved this. We worked hard for it."

Morrow scored 21 points in the first half against Lesterville in the semifinals. He finished with a game-high 24 points.

"My teammates did a great job of looking for me in there," Morrow said after the semifinal win. "They were just constantly looking."

Morrow continued to display his scoring touch in the district title game against Advance. His signature moment in the game came when he hit a shot and was fouled midway through the fourth quarter. He let out a loud yell and gave a big fist pump after making the basket. He then calmly stepped to the line and knocked down his free throw.

Morrow will try to continue his impressive play in the Class 2 sectional round against New Haven. Oran's best finish in basketball came in 1969 when it took second place.
