The Southeast Missourian newspaper was honored as a Triple Crown winner by the Associated Press Sports Editors in the organization's annual national contest.
A paper must be named in the top 10 in the daily sections division, Sunday sections division and special sections division to earn a Triple Crown.
It is the first time the Missourian, which competes in the under 15,000 circulation division, has earned a Triple Crown. There were 14 newspapers in the five circulation divisions that won a Triple Crown.
The Missourian also earned honorable mention in the under 30,000 circulation Sunday sections and special sections divisions.
Missourian sports reporter Jeff Breer also was honored in the contest. He earned a spot in the under 30,000 beat reporting division's top 10 for his work covering high school sports in Southeast Missouri. It is the third consecutive year that he earned a spot in the top 10 of one of the contest's writing divisions.
