INFIELD
Tim Wencewicz
Team: Notre Dame
Year: Senior
Position: First base
Stats: .474, 7 HR, 4 2B, 2 3B, .636 OBP, .855 slug percentage, 24 RBIs, 31 runs
Notes: Put up big numbers despite ongoing knee problem that required surgery during basketball season. Probably had best arm on team, but was unable to pitch due to injury. Provided plenty of punch and inspiration in the No. 3 spot. A three-year starter, finished with 18 career home runs.
Shane Kistner
Team: Notre Dame
Year: Senior
Position: Second base
Stats: .468, 26 H, 7 2B, 3 HR, 23 BB, .620 OBP, 22 RBIs, 31 R
Notes: A gritty, smart player, he was a tough out at the plate and on the bases. Had good idea of strike zone with 23 walks. Batted above .500 for most of season. Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett refers to him as "probably the best pure hitter I've ever coached." A dependable fielder who made plays.
Seth Hudson
Team: Cape Girardeau Central
Year: Junior
Position: Shortstop
Stats: .481, 38 H, 9 2B, 16 BB, .568 OBP, 30 R, 11 RBI, 26 SB
Notes: Was a bright spot in a difficult year for the Tigers, leading the team in virtually every offensive department. Doesn't like to hang out long at first base. Was successful on 26 of 29 stolen base attempts, setting a single-season school record for steals. Provided steady defense on the left side. Struck out only six times in 79 at-bats.
Zac Horman
Team: Chaffee
Year: Junior
Position: Third base/Pitcher
Stats: .276, 12 RBIs, 8-2, 2.04 ERA
Notes: Provided a steady glove at third base when not serving as the Red Devil ace. Was a big reason why Chaffee surprisingly won the Scott-Mississippi Conference. Was selected Scott-Mississippi Conference co-Player of the Year.
Nathan Seyer
Team: Oran
Year: Junior
Position: Catcher
Stats: .513, 41 H, 4 2B, 2 3B, 5 HR, 41 R, 30 RBIs, 17 SB
Notes: At the head of a talented junior class for the Eagles. A consistent hitter who kept his average well above .500 most of season. Despite having as much power as anyone on the team, was moved into the leadoff spot. Gets on base and possesses good speed. Provides strong arm -- gunned down 17 of 27 base stealers -- and leadership behind the plate. Selected Scott-Mississippi Conference co-Player of the Year.
Pitcher
Kyle Long
Team: Woodland
Year: Senior
Position: Pitcher
Stats: 6-1, 0.93 ERA, 88 K in 45 innings, .363, 4 HR
Notes: Hard-throwing left-hander made the Cardinals a threat to beat any team in area. Clocked over 85 mph at times this year. A consistent hurler who had three games with 15 or more strikeouts. Will play baseball at Florissant Valley Junior College next year.
Outfield
Josh Parham
Team: Jackson
Year: Senior
Stats: .373, 19 H, 6 2B, 17 RBIs, .536 OBP, 5-2
Notes: A late bloomer after not playing much as a junior, he finished second on Indians in batting after leading team most of season. A good defensive outfielder with a strong arm. Indians tried him out on the mound his junior year and ended up providing good 1-2 punch with Austin McDowell.
Trey Graviett
Team: Oran
Year: Junior
Stats: .414, 6 2B, 6 HR, 22 BB, 33 R, 31 RBIs, 7-4, 1.79 ERA, 88 K in 63 inn.
Notes: Came on strong with the bat, lifting his average over .400 and leading the team with six home runs. A left-hander, he was among the area's top pitchers and provided a nice lefty-righty combination with fellow junior Ryne Wood.
Scott Wittenborn
Team: Notre Dame
Year: Senior
Stats: .354, 29 H, 18 RBIs, .538 obp
Notes: Anchored Bulldogs' outfield in centerfield. Good speed to chase down balls and had strong arm. A well-rounded athlete who also excelled in soccer and basketball.
DH/Utility
Luke Johnson
Team: Woodland
Year: Junior
Stats: .500, 39 H, 11 2B, 3 HR, 46 RBIs
Notes: Excelled with runners on base, setting school record for RBIs. Fourteen of his hits went for extra bases.
