Southeast Missouri State's Kevin Farley set two new personal records at the NCAA Division I West Preliminary on Saturday, qualifying for the National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in both the discus and shot put.

Farley placed fifth in the discus with a personal-best throw of 191 feet, 5 inches. He broke the school record in shot put later in the day with a throw of 62-1 1/4, which was good enough for seventh place. Southeast's previous school record in the shot put was (61-11 3/4) held by Farley in 2013.

The national appearance in the shot put will be the second of Farley's career. He placed seventh in the event in 2013 and has never competed at the national championships in the discus.

"I am so happy for Kevin coming through with two huge personal records today to send himself to Oregon," Southeast coach Eric Crumpecker said in a press release. "I am proud of all our regional qualifiers for getting here and for the way they competed. It has been a good outdoor season, and it will be nice to wrap it up with a trip to the national meet."

Chris Martin took 14th with season-best in the triple jump (51-6 1/4), just missing the top-12 qualifiers.

The Redhawks' 1,600 relay team of Brannon Wright, Brandon Chunn, Jordan Barber and Jarred Pasley finished 20th in 3 minutes, 10.01 seconds.

Farley also finished 17th in the hammer throw (200-11) on Friday before action was postponed due to inclement weather.

The national championships are slated for June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon. The men's shot put will take place on June 8 while the men's discus is scheduled for June 10.
