Southeast Missouri State third baseman Trevor Ezell was named a second-team freshman all-American on Monday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Ezell also was named to the Ohio Valley Conference's all-freshman team following his breakout season.

"This is a well deserved honor for Trevor and I am very happy for him," Southeast coach Steve Bieser said in a press release. "Trevor has a very bright future here at Southeast Missouri. He takes the right approach everyday to continue his success both on the field and in the classroom."

Ezell started every game for the OVC regular-season champion Redhawks and batted leadoff most of the season while playing whatever position he was needed before securing the job of starting third baseman.

He played 17 games in left field before moving to second base for eight games and then ended the season with 33 games at third base.

He had 18 doubles, six triples and four home runs during his first year at Southeast along with 42 RBIs and scored 66 runs, which ranked 11th in the nation. He drew 41 walks and stole 11 bases.

His 246 at-bats broke Southeast's single-season record and he was one run short of tying the school's single-season record.

Ezell was the only OVC player named to the 34-player NCBWA freshman all-American team.
