Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team gets verbal commitment from Kansas prep player

The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball program has gained its second verbal commitment for the recruiting class of 2013-14.

Bailey Geiman, a 6-foot senior forward at Blue Valley (Kan.) High School in the Kansas City area, said she plans to make it official during the NCAA's early signing period that begins Nov. 14.

Geiman averaged about 10 points and four rebounds per game as a junior last season for a team that finished as the Kansas Class 5A runner-up for the second consecutive year.

"I'm really excited," Geiman said about her decision to attend Southeast. "It's a big relief. I don't have anything to worry about now."

Geiman said a recent visit to Southeast sold her on playing for the Redhawks.

"I loved the atmosphere. I felt really comfortable," she said. "I loved all the girls, the coaches. It felt right. I just felt like I belonged there."

Geiman was part of a dominant front line last year at Blue Valley, which featured two inside players who signed with Division I Missouri-Kansas City and Division II William Jewell.

Geiman figures to take on a bigger scoring role this season.

"I can go inside, but I can also shoot midrange and pop out and shoot the 3. I can handle the ball," Geiman said in describing her game.

Gary Brown, Geiman's coach with the renowned Eclipse AAU team, said the Redhawks will be getting a hard-working, well-rounded player with plenty of room for growth.

"She's a worker. She hasn't even reached her potential yet," said Brown, whose program annually features a host of Division I players. "She's big. She can run. She's got a great upside.

"She plays wing for us. She can score. She's a great defender. She can handle the ball. She does a little bit of everything. I think [Southeast] will be very happy with her."

Ashton Luttrull, a 5-8 senior point guard at Highland (Mo.) High School near Quincy, Ill., gave Southeast her verbal commitment last spring.

Luttrull averaged 20.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game as a junior to earn Class 3 all-state honors.

Southeast coach Ty Margenthaler is prohibited by NCAA regulations from commenting on recruits until they sign.
