Southeast endured a second-inning rain delay of nearly three hours Sunday before beating host Tennessee State 4-0 in the first game of an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader. The nightcap in Nashville, Tenn., was rained out.

The Redhawks improved to 10-15 overall and 3-2 in OVC play. The Tigers are 10-20 and 1-5.

Senior Taylor Cowan (6-8) recorded her first career shutout. She allowed three hits, struck out a season-high seven and walked one.

Southeast had seven hits, led by freshman Chelsea Smith with two.

The Redhawks scored three second-inning runs soon after the rain delay to take control. Smith had the big hit, a two-RBI triple. Southeast made it 4-0 in the fifth inning.

"Taylor Cowan pitched another complete game in which she was totally in control, with flawless defense behind her," Southeast coach Lana Richmond said in a release. "Chelsea Smith came through for us with a key two-out hit in the second.
