The Southeast Missouri State track and field team competed at the Indiana Relays on Friday and Saturday.
Blake Smith placed third in the 60-meter final with a time of 6.77, while Chris Navarro finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.20. Smith also took second in the long jump.
Senior Shon Kyle was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 16.45 meters and finished third in the weight throw with 17.04 meters. Junior Kayla Gutierrez's throw of 14.69 meters in the shot put was good for second place on the women's side.
Sophomore Duncan Ross tied for second in the pole vault with a vault of 4.70 meters. Senior Alexander Anderson finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.82 meters.
Junior Macy Ritter's high jump of 1.60 meters put her in second place.
The Redhawks will compete at the Saluki Invite next weekend in Carbondale, Illinois.
The Southeast tennis team opened its season with a road loss to Northern Kentucky, dropping a 4-3 decision on Friday.
"Northern Kentucky fought hard and played well throughout the lineup," coach Leah Killen said in a press release. "Once we were able to deal with our first match nerves, it was too late. This was a learning experience, and we have to become mentally tougher."
Redhawks freshman Mariya Kostyuk defeated Hailey Shanahan 7-6, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles match.
Kostyuk and freshman Viviana Ortiz picked up the only doubles win for Southeast, with a 6-2 decision against the No. 1 pair of Shanahan and Yasmine Xantos.
Sophomore Annisa Warasanti picked up a win in the No. 5 spot, defeating Nicole Soutar 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.
Senior Melissa Martin won 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 against Sierra Nellssen in No. 6 singles.
