Southeast Missouri State swept the Ohio Valley Conference Male Track & Field Athletes of the Week, announced Wednesday by the university.
Junior Marc Maton was tabbed Male Track Athlete of the Week while senior Kevin Farley earned Co-Male Field Athlete of the Week honors, which he shared with Eastern Illinois pole vaulter Eric Gordon.
It's the first award of the season for Maton, who finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run at the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University last weekend. His time of 3 minutes, 46.31 seconds ranks No. 1 in the OVC and is fourth on Southeast's all-time list for the race.
Maton earned OVC Runner of the Week honors during the 2015 cross country season after finishing 20th at the Commodore Classic, the highest finish by any OVC runner that week.
Farley won the discus (182 feet, 6 inches), finished second in the shot put (61-11 1/2), and took fifth in the hammer throw (207-0). His shot put is the top in the conference.
It's the second consecutive week that Farley has earned the award and the third time this outdoor season.
The Redhawks will compete this weekend at the OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which are hosted by Tennessee State in Nashville, Tennessee.
