The Southeast Missouri State track and field program narrowly missed out on having an NCAA national qualifier.

Brandon Colbert placed 13th in the hammer throw over the weekend at the NCAA West Regional in Eugene, Ore. His distance was 202 feet, 5 inches.

The top 12 finishers in each event at the regional qualified for the national meet.

Colbert had the top showing among the 11 Southeast athletes at the regional.

Central High School graduate Tyler Terry had the next-best finish, 15th in the long jump (24-4 14).

Colbert also was 17th in the shot put (56-0), followed by Josh Uchtman in 19th (55-7) and Craig Robinson in 39th (51-5).

Other individual finishers for Southeast were Samantha Espiricueta (25th javelin, 145-3), Shemeika Brewer (43rd triple jump, 38-3 1/4) and Ed Draper (45th javelin, 173-11).

Southeast's 400-meter relay team of Jackson High School graduate Rachel Kahle, Angelica Larrier, Magan Edwards and Jerika Lewis finished 17th with a time of 45.90 seconds.

Lewis also competed in the 400 but failed to advance out of her preliminary heat.
