The Southeast Missouri State softball team broke into the win column by taking three of four games over the weekend at the Mardi Gras Classic in Monroe, La. The Redhawks are 3-2 on the season.
Two routs of Grambling State highlighted the weekend, including Saturday's 21-3 five-inning romp that broke the school record for most runs in a game and tied the school mark for margin of victory.
Freshman Lindsey Patterson belted her first collegiate home run, a grand slam, among her two hits.
Freshman Katy McAllister also got her first collegiate homer. She had two hits and three RBIs.
Alene Bethel had two hits and three RBIs. Simone Patterson added two of Southeast's 13 hits.
Lindsey Patterson also notched her first collegiate pitching victory with 2 2/3 shutout innings.
Southeast opened the tournament Friday by beating Grambling 15-8.
Renee Kertz went 3 for 3 with a homer, double and six RBIs.
Freshman Megan Cidlik got her first collegiate homer, along with a double and three RBIs.
Cheyenne Gipson added two of Southeast's 14 hits.
Alora Marble was the winning pitcher. She allowed three runs over five innings.
The Redhawks lost to IUPUI 5-0 on Friday and beat host Louisiana-Monroe 8-4 on Saturday.
Kaitlin Wallace had two of Southeast's six hits against IUPUI. Shea Cothren took the loss.
Cothren bounced back to notch the victory Saturday over Louisiana-Monroe. She went all seven innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs.
Lindsey Patterson led Southeast's eight-hit attack with two hits and four RBIs.
Southeast concludes the tournament today with a game against Northwestern State.
