The Southeast Missouri State softball team fell short of posting a road sweep in its first Ohio Valley Conference series of the season.

SIU-Edwardsville rebounded from Saturday's two extra-inning losses to pound the Redhawks 11-1 on Sunday. The game was stopped after 4 1/2 innings by the eight-run mercy rule.

Southeast is 5-12 overall and 2-1 in OVC play. First-year OVC member SIUE improved to 8-16 and 1-2.

The Redhawks, after pounding out 29 hits and scoring 19 runs in Saturday's doubleheader, had five hits Sunday, all singles.

Senior Carmen Fowler went 3 for 3 and drove in Southeast's only run.

Freshman Shea Cothran was the losing pitcher. She allowed four hits and five runs, three earned, in 1 2/3 innings.

SIUE, which had nine hits, led 6-0 after two innings.

Southeast visits Belmont (Tenn.) for a 1 p.m. nonconference doubleheader Thursday.
