Southeast Missouri State softball team drops 10-0 decision to SIUC

The Southeast Missouri State softball team continued to have no success against regional rival Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

SIU ruined Southeast's home opener Wednesday, romping 10-0 in a game called after five innings by the run rule.

It was the Salukis' 15th straight victory against the Redhawks as SIU leads the all-time series 76-28-1.

The Salukis improved to 12-5 while dropping the Redhawks to 3-11.

Southeast managed just two hits, singles by Taylor Cowan and Renee Kertz.

Cowan was the losing pitcher, allowing three hits and five runs (three earned) in 1 1/3 innings. Southeast used four other hurlers.

Danielle Glosson struck out two and walked one in the two-hit shutout.

SIU had seven hits, including a home run and five RBIs by Christina Trapani. The Salukis scored a first-inning run and broke things open with a six-run second inning.

Southeast begins its Ohio Valley Conference schedule Saturday with a doubleheader at first-year OVC member SIU-Edwardsville. The squads will wrap up their three-game series Sunday.
