Southeast softball
Senior third baseman Haylee Crack snapped a third-inning tie with a three-run home run as the Southeast Missouri State softball team completed play at the Holiday Inn Spring Fling in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Sunday with an 8-3 win over Western Kentucky.
The Redhawks (3-6) won their final two games of the tournament to finish 2-2 over the weekend.
Crack's blast came in a four-run inning that staked sophomore starter Madeline Krumrey to a 5-1 lead. Krumrey (1-1) allowed three hits, allowed four walks and struck out seven over four innings to record her first win of the season.
Freshman Haley Thogmartin pitched the final three innings for Southeast, allowing four hits and two runs -- one earned.
Kelsey Jernigan (0-2) took the loss for the Hilltoppers, who fell to 7-5.
Junior right fielder Danielle Turner had two hits, one RBI and scored two runs for the Redhawks.
Southeast outhit Western Kentucky 8-7.
The Redhawks return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday against Missouri State in the All-Missouri Cancer Classic in St. Louis. Southeast also will play Northern Illinois on Saturday and UMKC and Saint Louis on Sunday.
