The Southeast Missouri State soccer team was in complete control in its season-opening win over Missouri S&T, a Division II school in Rolla, Missouri.

The Redhawks (1-0) recorded 24 shots and did not allow a shot on goal in their 2-0 road victory over the Miners on Friday night.

"Tonight's win over Missouri S&T was a team effort," Southeast coach Heather Nelson said in a press release. "The defensive unit contained the Miners' attack, and did a good job of transitioning into the attack off both the pass and by taking space.

"Our midfield unit was determined to possess the ball, and when S&T broke up our attack, we defended with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm. On top of everything, we had a number of players earn time at the forward position. I was pleased with their attacking mentality, combination play and overall effort."

Southeast outshot the Miners 10-0 during a scoreless first half.

Junior midfielder Jennifer Antonacci scored on a breakaway in the 53rd minute to put the Redhawks up 1-0. Freshman Lauren Kaempfe assisted on the play.

Junior forward Natasha Minor scored 22 minutes later with defender Valeria Jaramillo assisting on the play.
