Three Southeast Missouri State gymnasts competed at the NCAA Regional on Saturday hosted by Alabama at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Sophomore Alexis Brawner posted a score of 38.925 in the all-around competition, which was good for seventh place out of 13.
Brawner finished 13th on vault with a score of 9.775, 25th on bars and 26th on floor with 9.750 in each and 30th on balance beam with a 9.650.
Junior Lauren Israel finished 12th in the all-around with a 37.475. She came in 10th on balance beam with a 9.825 and 15th on uneven bars with a 9.800. Her 9.600 on floor was good for 39th, and she finished 42nd on vault with an 8.250.
Freshman McKinzie Jones placed 14th in the floor competition with a 9.800.
According to a press release from Southeast it has not been determined if any of the Redhawks earned a berth to the NCAA National Championships.
The Southeast softball team sustained a couple of one-run losses in a Saturday doubleheader at SIU Edwardsville.
The Cougars won the first game 2-1 before completing the sweep with a 5-4 victory.
Southeast dropped to 11-16 and 5-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference while SIUE improved to 11-16 and 5-4.
SIUE held a 1-0 lead after three innings, but the Redhawks tied it with an RBI double by catcher Riley Hayes in the top of the fourth.
The Cougars plated the game-winner in the home half. Starting pitcher Maddie Krumrey gave up a leadoff single, then back-to-back groundouts allowed the runner to reach third and a throwing error by first baseman Savannah Carpenter plated the go-ahead run. Southeast, which committed three errors in the contest, stranded a runner on second in the fifth and sixth before the Redhawks were retired in order to seal SIUE's win.
Krumrey (5-5) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on five hits. She did not walk a batter and struck out four. Baylee Douglass got the win in the circle for SIUE. She allowed one earned run on four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in the complete-game win.
Right fielder Claire Wernig went 2 for 4, and Hayes recorded the other two Southeast hits, going 2 for 2.
SIUE held a 2-0 lead after one inning in Game 2. The Redhawks tied it in the top of the second with a two-run double by third baseman Haylee Krack, but SIUE regained the lead with two runs in the home half to make it 4-2.
Southeast plated a run in the fifth and tied it in the sixth with an RBI single by left fielder Nicole Deering.
SIUE's Alyssa Heren hit a solo home run off reliever Haley Thogmartin in the bottom of the sixth for the final score. She was 4 for 4 with a triple, three runs and an RBI.
Thogmartin took the loss and dropped to 6-7. She allowed one earned run on four hits with no walks and no strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. Starter Mackenzie Hoelting allowed four earned runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings. She did not walk or strikeout a batter.
Douglass improved to 6-6 with her second win of the day after pitching the final 2 1/3 innings and allowing one earned run on one hit with two walks and no strikeouts.
The Redhawks were outhit 13-5 in Game 2. No one recorded more than one hit, but Carpenter, Hayes and Krack each doubled.
The three-game series concludes with a 1 p.m. game today.
The Southeast tennis team dropped to 1-15 and 0-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference with losses to Austin Peay and Murray State at the Redhawks Tennis Complex this weekend.
APSU defeated the Redhawks 6-1 in their home opener on Friday to improve to 3-8 and 2-3 in conference.
Annisa Warasanti and Emilia Montenegro lost No. 1 doubles 6-0. Isabella Krupa and Anais Emelie came back for a 6-4 win before Mila Majtan and Ana Canahuate-Torres lost 7-6 at the No. 3 spot.
Montenegro's 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 singles spot was the only point for the Redhawks. Warasanti lost 6-3, 6-7, 6-10 at No. 3 while Canahuate-Torres lost 6-3,7-5 at No. 6.
Krupa, Majtan and Emelie were defeated in straight sets, and the No. 1, 2 and 4 spots, respectively.
Murray State posted a 7-0 victory over the Redhawks on Saturday to improve to 8-8 and 3-3 in conference.
Southeast had to forfeit No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches after losing Emelie prior to the start of the match.
Majtan and Krupa lost 6-1 in No. 1 doubles and Montenegro and Ana Canhuate-Torres lost 6-1 at No. 2.
The Redhawks lost every singles match in straight sets. Krupa lost 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1. Majtan was defeated 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 and Warasanti lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3. At the No. 4 spot, Montenegro was defeated 6-1, 6-4, and Canahuate-Torres lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.
The Redhawks host Eastern Kentucky on Friday.
