Southeast Missouri State roundup: Relay team breaks 28-year-old record

A school record highlighted the Southeast Missouri State track and field team's strong performance Friday at the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.

The men's distance medley relay team of Mohamed Souleiman, Curt Wood, Max Wieser and Alex Zisser broke a 28-year-old school mark with a time of 10 minutes, 0.71 seconds.

Wieser, a graduate of Saxony Lutheran High School, helped the relay group finish in fourth place.

Southeast won four events Friday: Jerkia Lewis in the 400 (56.35), Jessica Bollinger in the 3,000 (10:17.76), Craig Robinson in the weight throw (64 feet, 1 inch) and Souleiman in the 800 (2:54.51).

Robinson also was fifth in the shot put (53-1).

Josh Uchtman was second in the shot put (60-1 1/4) and fifth in the weight throw (58-4).

Angelica Larrier was fourth in the 200 (25.64) and fifth in the 60 (7.80).

Placing fourth were Kevin Farley in the shot put (53-1 1/2) and Chris Loseman in the 3,000 (8:30.30).

Finishing fifth were Notre Dame Regional High School graduate Jill Schnurbusch in the pole vault (12-5 1/2) and Alexander Anderson in the 200 (22.36).

Saturday's results were not available at press time.

Southeast teams return to action Friday when they host their only meet of the indoor season, the annual Redhawks Invitational at the Student Recreation Center.

Gymnastics

Southeast scored its second-highest total of the season in finishing last during Friday's rugged Perfect 10 Challenge in Oklahoma City.

Southeast (0-5) finished at 189.600. Host Oklahoma, which is ranked fifth nationally, won the three-team meet with a 197.050. Iowa State was second (195.175).

Taylor Westrick tied for seventh on beam (9.800), and Emma Garrett tied for seventh on floor (9.825) to lead the Redhawks.

Southeast's all-around competitors, Angela Serafini and Megan Fosnow, placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with scores of 37.850 and 37.775.

The Redhawks return to action Saturday when they host Illinois-Chicago at 1 p.m.

Tennis

The Redhawks lost their season opener Saturday, 5-1 at Arkansas State. The match was played indoors due to inclement weather.

Southeast's only victory came at No. 4 singles when newcomer Melissa Martin defeated Biljana Miloshevska 3-6, 7-6, 10-7 (super tiebreaker).

The Redhawks fell in straight sets in the other singles matches. No doubles matches were contested.

Southeast plays at Central Arkansas today.
