Weekend news from around the world of Southeast Missouri State athletics.

The Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team posted its second straight shutout, a 3-0 victory over host Evansville on Friday.

Southeast improved to 3-1 with its second victory in three road games. Evansville fell to 1-4-1.

The Redhawks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute on the first collegiate goal by freshman Torey Byrd. She headed home a cross from sophomore Jacey Boyko.

"The team did not play up to its standard in the first half," Southeast coach Heather Nelson said. "Our possession and team defensive shape was below average in comparison to recent performances.

"We did however manage to create some excellent scoring opportunities, and Torey was successful attacking a cross that was served into the penalty area by Jacey."

Southeast made it 2-0 just four minutes into the second half on Lauren Bozesky's first goal of the year, a shot from the middle of the 18-yard box. It was unassisted.

Freshman Erin Shulman iced the victory with her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 75th minute. It also was unassisted.

"Our possession was much improved in the second half," said Nelson, whose squad outshot Evansville 13-10. "We were better defensively and showed better composure in the final third."

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashton Aubuchon made four saves while playing nearly 79 minutes. Freshman Abby Jordan saw her first collegiate action, spending the final 11-plus minutes in the nets. She did not face a shot.

Southeast returns to action Friday, when it faces Butler at the Kentucky tournament in Lexington, Ky.
