Southeast Missouri State tennis player Mariya Kostiuk was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Female Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
This is the first time in her career that the sophomore from Kyiv, Ukraine, earned the honor.
"Mariya has been playing some fantastic tennis this season," SEMO tennis coach Mary Beth Gunn said in a press release. "She has shown real power and domination on the court, and she looks ready for our opening OVC matches this weekend."
Kostiuk posted a 3-1 record on the week, going 2-0 in single play and dropping just five sets. She defeated IUPUI's Rachel Swartwood, 6-0, 6-2, powered past Evansville's Marina Moreno, 6-2, 6-1, and capped it off with a doubles win alongside Anais Emelie against IUPUI.
The Redhawks were upended by Maryville (3-3) by a 4-2 score Tuesday night in St. Louis.
Isabella Krupa, SEMO's No. 2, picked up a victory in singles play by defeating Andrea Fandino in two sets, 6-3, 6-4. No. 3 player Mila Majtan also celebrated a win after rallying to drop Sarah Etler 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
Southeast (1-9) lost all three doubles to begin the match -- 8-7, 8-6 and 8-4.
The Redhawks open Ohio Valley Conference play at Eastern Illinois on Friday before traveling to SIU Edwardsville on Saturday.
Southeast got its spring break off on the right foot as it exploded offensively for a doubleheader sweep of Jackson State, 10-1 and 9-8, Tuesday in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Redhawks (5-9) had 25 hits and five home runs in the two games against Jackson State (2-11), which plays in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
It was the first time that SEMO has notched double-digit hits in back-to-back games. It had 12 in the opener and 13 in Game 2.
Other firsts on the day included Southeast softball's first doubleheader sweep of the season and a season-high four home runs in one game, thanks to the bats of Haylee Krack, Darby Pruett, Savannah Carpenter and Danielle Turner.
Harley Wheeler did not, however, hit a home run, falling just short of the cycle in Game 1 after going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored. Claire Wernig had two hits, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
Southeast notched four runs through four innings before breaking out for five in the fourth inning, including bombs off the bats of Krack and Pruett.
The Redhawks tacked on a final run in the last frame of a five-inning contest.
Madeline Krumrey went to 3-1 on the season as she picked up the victory in the pitcher's circle, giving up one run on six hits in four innings of work. She struck out two and walked two.
The nightcap was much closer, as the teams were tied at 6 after four innings before SEMO brought in three runs in the top of the fifth.
Nicole Deering scored the go-ahead run for Southeast when she came home on a bases-loaded passed ball. Sarah Messex added an RBI-double and Riley Hayes notched a sacrifice fly for a 9-6 lead.
Jackson State pulled within a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Krumrey stranded a runner in scoring position and ultimately picked up her first save.
Haley Thogmartin (3-5) got the win after 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Turner was 3-for-3 n the second game, with three runs scored, a homer and two RBIs.
The Redhawks are back on the field at Southeastern Louisiana today.
