The Southeast Misosuri State football team will open its first season under coach Tom Matukewicz on Aug. 28 at Houck Stadium against Missouri Baptist, an NAIA member.
That date became official Tuesday when Southeast released its schedule for the 2014 season.
The date also will be a special one for Missouri Baptist, one that will go down as the inaugural day for the Spartans' first-year football program.
Southeast travels to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Kansas Jayhawks on Sept. 6 and the Redhawks face regional-rival Southern Illinois on Sept. 13 in Carbondale, Ill.
Southeast hosts Southeastern Louisiana during family weekend. The Redhawks and Lions play at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 for Southeast's final nonconference game.
Southeast opens Ohio Valley Conference play against UT Martin on Sept . 27 in Martin, Tenn.
The Redhawks play four OVC games at home with the first being on Oct. 4 against Tennessee State for homecoming.
Southeast hosts defending OVC champion Eastern Illinois on Oct. 18. The Panthers finished with a record of 12-2 and were 8-0 in conference.
Austin Peay and Jacksonville State come to Cape Girardeau on Nov. 15 and 22, respectively. Southeast beat the Governors 36-34 for one of its two conference wins last season.
Southeast's other OVC win was a 37-34 triple overtime victory against Murray State. Southeast travels to Murray, Ky., on Oct. 11.
Southeast is also on the road against Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee Tech on Oct. 25 and Nov. 8, respectively.
