"We felt that Dickey has made great strides with the men's basketball program at Southeast Missouri," Shafer said in a statement. "I want to thank Dr. Dobbins and the Board of Regents for approving our recommendation."

Nutt led the Redhawks to the second round of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament this season. They finished 10-22.

Southeast said the terms on the one-year extension are the same as the original contract, which pays Nutt $120,000 annually.
