Southeast Missouri State track and field coach Eric Crumpecker had few complaints after the 31st annual Joey Haines Invitational.

The Redhawks claimed 12 event titles in the meet held Friday and Saturday at Southeast's Abe Stuber Complex.

"We had a lot of personal bests, a lot of season bests," Crumpecker said. "We had a lot of people do a lot of good things. I'm very satistfied."

Southeast competed against Arkansas State, Memphis, SIU Edwardsville and Rend Lake (Ill.) Junior College. No team scores were kept.

"We didn't have a lot of teams here, but the ones that came were good," Crumpecker said. "Just about every event was very competitive."

Southeast's women posted eight victories, which included five that were career-best outputs.

Cara Harbstreet won the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 5 inches, Jessica Brown went 19-2 1/2 in the long jump, Rebekah Lawson's first outdoor 5,000 meter time of 17 minutes, 54.68 seconds was nearly a minute faster than her best from the indoor season, Angelica Larrier ran the 100 in 12 seconds flat and Jerika Lewis clocked 24.04 in the 200.

Gloria Westlake claimed her first career 3,000 steeplechase in 11:45.58, and Southeast's women won both relays.

Larrier, Lewis, Magan Edwards and Tiana Borner captured the 400 relay in 46.58, and the same foursome timed 3:51.43 to take the 1,600 relay.

Southeast nearly got a win out of Erica Grajales in the pole vault. She set a personal standard with a height of 11-11 3/4, which ties the third-best mark in school history. She matched the top height but settled for second place.

"Everybody did really well," Grajales said. "It was a good meet."

Southeast's men captured four titles.

Blake Smith, a freshman from Jackson High School, took gold in the long jump by clearing 23-6, Chris Loseman tied his career-best time of 3:56.98 to claim the 1,500, Mohamed Souleiman captured the 800 in 1:53.34 and Brent Collins nabbed the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:26.87.

"Just a lot of people did really well," Crumpecker said.

The meet was not Southeast's only chance to compete at home this year. The Redhawks will host the Ohio Valley Conference outdoor championships May 4 and 5.

"We get to come back in four weeks and do it again at our place," Crumpecker said. "I would expect us to do even better then."

The Redhawks are back in action Saturday at the Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Ky.
