The Southeast Missouri State baseball team, which has slumped recently, hoped to start Ohio Valley Conference play strong Saturday.
Those plans were put on hold temporarily after the Redhawks' scheduled home doubleheader against Morehead State was rained out.
The squads will play a noon doubleheader today at Capaha Field as the scheduled three-game series is reduced to a two-game set. Both contests today will be seven innings per OVC rules for Saturday rainouts of conference series.
"It's disappointing, but there's nothing you can do about it," Southeast coach Mark Hogan said. "You'd always like to get all your conference games in, but that rarely happens."
Southeast, picked to finish second in the nine-team OVC, is 11-10.
The Redhawks started the season 7-2 but have gone just 4-8 since. They have lost four of their last five games, including three of four during their current homestand.
Morehead State, tabbed for eighth in the conference, is 3-18.
Today "is a big day for both clubs," Hogan said.
