The Southeast Missouri State baseball team is sputtering along at 8-21, but the Redhawks are 3-0 against NAIA squads.

Southeast will try to finish off a four-game season sweep of NAIA opponents when Mid-Continent University visits Capaha Field at 4 p.m. today.

The Cougars, from Mayfield, Ky., have a 14-27 record but have won four of their past five games. They are a last-place 2-10 in the TranSouth Athletic Conference.

Southeast is 1-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference, which ties it for last place among the 10 teams. The Redhawks have lost 11 of their last 12.

The Redhawks snapped their school-record 10-game losing streak Saturday at Eastern Illinois before dropping Sunday's finale of the three-game OVC series.

Southeast owns two wins over NAIA Hannibal-LaGrange and one victory over NAIA Harris-Stowe.

Today marks the third meeting between Southeast and Mid-Continent. Both previous matchups were competitive.

Southeast beat the Cougars 16-12 in 2010 and squeezed out a 2-0 victory last year when the Redhawks' pitchers allowed just one hit.

The Cougars already have played two games against an OVC member this season, losing twice at Murray State by scores of 10-6 and 11-1.

Southeast resumes OVC play Thursday with a three-game home series against Eastern Kentucky.

Tailgate dates

The Southeast athletic department announced the dates for this season's four baseball tailgates featuring free food and refreshments for fans.

The first tailgate will be April 10 against Southern Illinois-Carbondale. The game also features TOMS One Day without Shoes. Fans are encouraged to come to the game barefoot and donate a pair of lightly worn shoes.

Other tailgate dates are April 20, May 11 and May 19.
