Three Southeast Missouri State baseball players with professional aspirations will have to wait another day to see what the immediate future holds for them.
Pitcher Shae Simmons, All-American third baseman Trenton Moses and shortstop Kenton Parmley were not selected on Tuesday's second day of the amateur draft that featured rounds two through 15.
All three are hopeful of having their names called today when the draft concludes with rounds 16 through 40.
Simmons, a graduate of Scott City High School who recently completed his junior season at Southeast, is considered the Redhawks' top draft prospect.
Baseball America ranked Simmons as the 446th best draft prospect. A total of 488 players already have been drafted, which suggests Simmons could be picked early today.
Neither Moses nor Parmley, seniors who recently completed their Southeast eligibility, were ranked among Baseball America's top 500 draft prospects.
Moses, an Advance High School graduate, and Parmley, a Goreville, Ill., native, were rated 21st and 22nd, respectively, among Missouri draft prospects. Simmons was ninth on that list.
Two Ohio Valley Conference players were drafted Tuesday.
Eastern Kentucky shortstop Richie Rodriguez was taken by the Mets in the ninth round with the 290th overall selection.
Jacksonville State first baseman Ben Waldrip went to the Rockies in the 10th round. He was the 318th overall pick.
The top draft pick from the state of Missouri was Missouri State pitcher Pierce Johnson, who was taken by the Cubs in Monday's supplemental round at No. 43 overall.
Johnson became the fourth Missouri State pitcher drafted in the first or supplemental rounds since 2001.
SIU Carbondale first baseman Chris Serritella was drafted by the Phillies in the fourth round at No. 158 overall.
