Southeast loses its offensive coordinator

The Southeast Missouri State football program may or may not be in the market for a new coach, but it definitely is losing its offensive coordinator.

Vincent White has accepted a position as the running backs coach at New Mexico, a Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) program that went 1-11 this past season.

White has directed Southeast's offense for coach Tony Samuel's entire tenure. Samuel recently completed his fifth season with the Redhawks, and his contract expires Jan. 31.

While it is expected that Samuel will return following one of the best seasons in Southeast history, there has not been an official announcement.

The 2010 Redhawks went 9-3 to tie the program record for wins, won the program's first Ohio Valley Conference title and earned a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) playoff berth for the program's first playoff appearance.

White, who also served as Southeast's assistant head coach, is a former coach at St. Mary's (Calif.) College before that FCS program discontinued football in 2004.

White, a 1984 graduate of Stanford where he was a standout running back, also has been an assistant at FBS programs Arizona State, Pittsburgh, Utah, SMU and Maryland.
