Kris Buchheister, women's gymnastics coach at Southeast Missouri State University for the past two seasons, has resigned to accept a position as assistant women's coach at the University of Iowa.
"I hate to leave Southeast, but this is an excellent opportunity for me to be in a Big 10 program," Buchheister said. "The decision to make the move was a family decision. My husband is from that area and he will have the opportunity to get back into coaching and I will also be able to do some work as a physical therapist with the Iowa men's gymnastics team."
Buchheister, formerly an assistant at the University of Missouri, was 25-18 in two seasons. Included in the 1999 record of 11-10 were two wins over Missouri.
"I would really like to thank the coaches at Southeast Missouri State for helping me with my first head coaching assignment," said Buchheister. "I think the University should be proud of all the athletes at Southeast and how well the athletes represent Southeast."
Don Kaverman, director of athletics at Southeast, said the University will conduct a national search to find a new gymnastics coach.
