MARTIN, Tenn. -- The Southeast Missouri State University men's golf team led by three strokes after the second round early Tuesday but couldn't hold off a big finish by Murray State in the Tri-State Classic.

Murray State was 6-under par in the third round and finished at 880. Southeast was six back at 886, one ahead of North Alabama. Western Illinois (888) and St. Louis (890) completed the field.

"We played pretty good golf, considering no more than we've been outside so far this season," Southeast coach Carroll Williams said.

Southeast's Kent Phillips shot 218 to finish third. Others for Southeast were Jimmy Blose (222), Woody Hill (223), Brian Sheehan (227) and Matt Hillis (230).

Gymnasts at home today against Eastern Michigan

The Southeast gymnastics team will host Eastern Michigan at 7 p.m. today.

Southeast, 4-8 and ranked No. 51 nationally, carries an average score of 192.31 into today's matchup with EMU, 5-7 and ranked No. 48 with a 192.455 average.

"We're traditionally strong at home," Southeast coach Patty Stozheim said. "We're back in the rhythm of competing after having an entire week off before competing at Mizzou."

Individually, junior Ashley Godwin ranks 61st nationally for Southeast with an all-around average of 38.68. Natalie Hasimoto ranks No. 69 for EMU with a 38.64 average.
