Waggener takes post at Indianapolis
Stephen Waggener, who had served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Southeast Missouri State baseball team last spring, has accepted a full-time position as an assistant coach at the University of Indianapolis.
Waggener was Southeast's first base coach, assisted the outfielders and catchers, and provided batting instruction. He also coordinated off-season conditioning and handled some administrative duties.
He spent one year at Southeast after serving as a volunteer coach at his alma mater, the University of West Alabama, from which he graduated in 2003.
The Southeast Missouri State soccer team (1-1) plays 4 p.m. today at DePaul (1-2-1).
The game will be played at Wish Field on the north side of Chicago.
Southeast and DePaul, a member of the Big East, have never met before.
The Redhawks return home 1 p.m. Sunday to take on Troy.
The Trojans also are 1-2-1 after losing earlier this week to Southeastern Louisiana.
The Southeast volleyball team, 1-6 and riding a four-game losing streak, competes today and Saturday in the Tiger Invitational hosted by the University of Memphis.
Memphis, 6-0 and off to its best start since 2001, will be making its home debut.
Other teams in the event are Lipscomb (3-3), Arkansas-Little Rock (4-5) and Louisiana Tech (2-6).
Southeast plays UALR at 11:30 a.m. today, then faces Memphis at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, the Redhawks play Louisiana Tech at 11:30 a.m. and Lipscomb at 4:30 p.m.
The Redhawks play Tuesday at Southern Illinois-Carbondale.
