Brett Slaten shot a 4-under-par 78 on Wednesday to win the boys 16 to 19 18-holes Tour division of the PGA Gateway Junior Series at Bent Creek.

Slaten finished three shots ahead of Alex Reid.

Emily Matthews placed first in the girls 16 to 19 18-holes division with an 88.

The series' next event will take place Monday at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

BASEBALL Cape Junior Legion wins

The Plaza Tire Cape Girardeau Post 63 Junior Legion baseball team outlasted the St. Louis Pirates 23-18 on Wednesday night.

Jacob Conklin led Cape with a 6-for-7 peformance at the plate with five RBIs.

Cape (17-11) returns to action Friday in round-robin play at the 16-team Eureka Summer Bash.
