Hawkins served as a Barton County assistant from 1999 until 2001, according to the SIU men's basketball media guide.

SIU spokeswoman Sue Davis said administrators were looking into the matter at Barton County. "We're going to reserve comment until we better understand the situation developing in Kansas," she said.

Lashley is accused of lying to the grand jury when he said he helped only former Missouri player Ricky Clemons on correspondence courses and tests.
