JACKSON -- In a SEMO Conference baseball game that featured 25 hits -- six of which were home runs -- Sikeston outslugged host Jackson 15-12 on Tuesday.

With the score tied 7-7 after two innings, Sikeston scored four runs in the third inning, two in the fourth and two in the sixth. Jackson got one in the fourth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh to make the score a bit closer.

Clay Hooper got the win and Chris Kohm suffered the loss. Kohm went two innings, allowing eight earned runs and eight hits.

Sikeston (5-1, 3-0 in the conference) had 13 hits, four of which were homers. Hooper went 3-for-4 with a homer and Mark Silverthorn was 3-for-5 with a homer and a double.

For Jackson, which got 12 hits, Travis Stevens was 4-for-5 with a three-run homer and four RBIs in all, Ryan Belz had a three-run blast and Tory Meyr went 2-for-4.

"It was the best we've hit the ball all year," said Jackson coach Sam Sides, whose team fell to 5-6 and 0-5 in the league.

Delta 8, Meadow Heights 3

DELTA -- After an 0-4 start, Delta won its fourth straight game Tuesday, banging out 11 hits off Meadow Heights pitching.

Lonnie Cook led the offensive with three hits while winning pitcher Shawn Kinder had two doubles. Andrew Green also had two hits, including a double.

Kinder (3-1) struck out seven, walked three and allowed six hits in six innings.

After Meadow Heights scored twice in the top of the first, Delta answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and two in the second for a 4-1 lead. The Panthers scored their final run in the fifth, but the Bobcats retaliated with four runs in the home half of the inning.

Chaffee 11, Oak Ridge 1

CHAFFEE -- After losing its first three contests this season, Chaffee ran its winning streak to seven games with its six-inning win over Oak Ridge on Tuesday.

Chaffee's Matt Stroup had three hits and two RBIs and Matt Graham added two hits, including a run-scoring double in the first inning that jump-started the Red Devils' five-run frame.

Tommy Stidham got the win. In six innings, he allowed just three hits.

SOFTBALL

Chaffee 10, Oak Ridge 0

CHAFFEE -- Chaffee took advantage of 13 Oak Ridge walks and beat the Lady Blue Jays in six innings.

Chaffee (8-1) had eight hits. Freshman Courtney Loucks had two hits and two RBIs and Jennifer Siebert had a hit, drew three walks, stole five bases and scored three runs.

Jamie Duncan, who had two RBIs at the plate, got the win. She went the distance, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out 13. It was Duncan's first appearance in two weeks after suffering from mononucleosis.

Perryville 7, De Soto 0

De SOTO -- Perryville improved to 4-3 and stayed undefeated in Jefferson County Conference play Tuesday.

Amanda Schumer scored four goals for the Lady Pirates while Sara Hadler had two and Brooke Winkler one.

GOLF

Jackson places 2nd

NEW MADRID -- At the par-36 New Madrid Country Club on Tuesday, New Madrid County Central shot 164, Jackson 165 and Cape Central 168.

Jackson's Tom Henderson led all golfers with a 38. Chris Pike shot 41, Andy Kohl 43 and Gabe Estes 43.

For Central, Dane McLaird and Bryan Welker each shot a 40, Josh Miller 42, Mike Oslund 46 and Danny Groesbeck 46.

New Madrid was led by Mike Cravens and Bill Scobey; each shot a 40.

TRACK & FIELD

Jackson takes 4th

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Jackson's boys tied Perryville for fourth place in the Ste. Genevieve Invitational Tuesday with 59 points. Ste. Genevieve won with 111 points.

Devree Flint won the shot put with a throw of 49-10 and the discus with a heave of 144-3 1/2. Nathan Windeknecht won the triple jump (43-5 1/2) and placed third in the long jump (20-5). Kevin Bricknell won the high jump (6-5).

Central 8th-grade girls 2nd

PERRYVILLE -- Cape Central's 8th-grade girls took second and the 8th-grade boys placed fourth in the seven-team Perryville Invitational on Tuesday.

Perryville won the girls division with 123 points and Central had 95.5. Lainie Bohnsack won the high jump, Sylvia Austin won the 100 and Terra Herzberger won the discus.

Farmington won the boys division with 112 points and Central had 70. Ricky Turner won the 100 hurdles, Jordan White won the 200 and Ray Primanato won the pole vault.

FRESHMAN BASEBALL

Cape Central swept Scott City in a doubleheader, winning 12-2 and 13-2.

Winning pitchers were Tim Huckstep and Justin Welker.

Matt Brandt had two hits, including a home run and three RBIs in the first game. Rob Carr hit a grand slam and finished with six RBIs in the second game.
