SIKESTON -- Cape Girardeau Central High's baseball team got a second chance against Sikeston, but the result was the same.
Sikeston scored two runs in the fifth inning as Central walked four straight batters and escaped with a 2-1 victory Tuesday.
Sikeston beat the Tigers earlier this season at Central.
Central led 1-0 after Adam Bertrand reached on a dropped third strike, went to second on a Mitch Ogles sacrifice and scored on a Ross Bennett double.
But in the fifth, central starter Tatum Kitchen lost his control and walked three straight with one out. Craig Ringwald entered and walked the first batter he faced, tying the game.
Central then tried to turn a double play, but the throw to first was late and Sikeston scored the game winner.
Kitchen took the loss. In 5 1/2 innings, he allowed just one hit and struck out five, but walked six. Ringwald went 1 2/3 and permitted two hits.
Sikeston's Clay Hooper pitched six innings and Brent Self came on in the seventh. The two limited Central to three hits.
"All four pitchers did a nice job," said Central coach Steve Williams. "We just walked a few too many batters than we needed to."
Central's JV lost 9-8 in nine innings. Chris Barrows had two home runs and three RBIs.
